In a move to bolster Lagos’ flood preparedness, the Lagos State Branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) yesterday convened a high-level stakeholders’ engagement ahead of Friday’s large-scale Flood Simulation Exercise in Agboyi.
The meeting, held at the NRCS Branch Headquarters in Lagos, brought together key emergency response agencies, security operatives, community leaders, and disaster management experts to fine-tune plans for the exercise.

Those present included representatives from the NRCS National Headquarters, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nigerian Navy, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Ministry of the Environment and Office of Drainage Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), Agboyi community chiefs and leaders, NRCS Lagos volunteers, and a cinematographer to document proceedings.
Branch Secretary, Mr. Olakunle Lasisi, moderated the session, with support from Branch Admin Officer, Mr. Nicholas Adeshile; Branch Communication Officer, Mr. Olushola Tejuosho; and National Disaster Response Team members, Mrs. Charity and Mr. Wasiu Tiamiyu.

Discussions focused on clarifying roles, establishing effective communication channels, reviewing the simulation agenda, and addressing anticipated challenges. The meeting also stressed the importance of seamless inter-agency coordination to ensure swift, efficient responses during real-life flooding incidents.
As part of the action plan, participants agreed to reconvene today at the Agboyi site for final checks, equipment positioning, and readiness drills.

The simulation, funded under the Italian Government–backed Flood Resilience Project, is designed to strengthen emergency preparedness in high-risk communities across six Nigerian states.
The exercise will hold on Friday, August 15, 2025, in Agboyi Community, Lagos.
